We all know that living with yourself is enough to drive you crazy sometimes. Adding someone else into the mix can be just as crazy when meshing styles of cleaning, scheduling, and other factors that come into play. Here are a few ways to accomplish this.
Communication
You might have a clear-cut way of how you do things around the house, but understanding how your partner or multiple partner's work is something you must sit down with them and talk about. Communication is the first step to ensure that everything runs smoothly and that everyone agrees on everything in the household.
Make it a Joyful Space
Not everyone likes the same things or how things look. Some fight over this or settle for what others want because they don’t want to fight over it. Talking about what the likes and dislikes are will go a long way in making sure that everyone is happy. Finding a happy medium in between that you can all agree on will help overall and make sure that space is a joyful place for everyone to be in and want to come home to.
Chores
Chores are an essential piece of living together or just living alone. This is something that we need to do every week, and sometimes daily, to keep up with things in our lives. Some people use planners digitally or in a binder to help, and others fly by the seat of their pants. Having something as concrete as a whiteboard that lists out all the chores may help and sitting down to talk about who wants and needs to do what would be a great strategy. Sometimes there are chores that someone may not be able to do that others can pick up, and these needs have to be addressed ahead of time, so there’s no resentment.
Guests
More than likely, you have some of the same friends. Then there are some you go out with on your own. Depending on your space in your home, whether it be large or small, you need to realize just what you can handle for hosting. If you have a small space, you may not be able to host a large party of friends, whereas if you have a larger area, that may be something you can do.
Making sure that there is respect for that space, though, is paramount to having happy partners, and having a mutual decision that it’s okay to have guests in that space is essential.
Be Patient and Give Each Other Space
In living together, we’re there, in each other’s faces, all the time. It’s hard not to notice when someone is there with us nearly all day, or at least when we’re home and not working or out doing something alone.
Being patient is vital to make sure you’re not only respecting each other but giving each additional space and time to do what needs to be done to keep yourself happy and content. Sometimes this means scheduling out quiet time, alone time, time to read, or just time to sit and watch TV.
Whatever works for you, remember that respecting them is just as important as them respecting you.
“Communication is the first step to ensure that everything runs smoothly, and that everyone agrees on everything in the household.”
However you live in your space together with your partner (s), make sure that these tips are on your list of things to do, and you’ll be much happier. Overall, sharing your space is a momentous experience and something you should cherish and enjoy making the relationship blossom and find fresh ways to love each other without all the small stuff getting in the way.
